Malew Commissioners unanimously agreed that this year’s rates will remain at 199p after careful consideration of the current and projected finances.

A rise in the total rates collectable due to new residential and commercial developments coming on stream has assisted in offsetting the increases in costs. However, these new developments still require to be serviced and we will be able do so with our current provision in conjunction with outsourced contractors.

The Commissioners continue to make enhancements throughout the parish as can be highlighted over the past year such as the upgrading and improvements to streetlighting in the older estates within Ballasalla, more planned maintenance of the open spaces, and the upgrading of the access lane to Monks bridge from Rushen Abbey.

We continue our joint working partnership with Port Erin Commissioners. This has seen the addition of a new refuse collection vehicle this year. This has enabled both authorities to carryout collections more efficiently and significantly minimalized any disruptions due to breakdowns etc.

Over the forthcoming year, the Commissioners expect to build on the improvements already made to the public open spaces. This is an ongoing program and striking the right balance can be challenging, but a number of areas for improvement have been identified and will be advanced.

The Commissioners appreciate the support for their initiatives and will continue to help make Malew a desirable place to live and work.
