Malew Commissioners are pleased to confirm that rates will again remain unchanged at 199p for the coming year. This decision was agreed unanimously following careful review of both current finances and future projections.

While the year ahead is expected to see a reduction in rates income from quarrying activity within the Parish, this will be partly balanced by the completion of new residential and industrial developments. Overall, total rates income is anticipated to be slightly lower than in the current financial year. Any new capital projects will be responsibly funded from existing reserves, ensuring continued financial stability.

Significant progress has been made over the past couple of few years in upgrading streetlighting across the Parish. The latest scheme, covering Main Road and Crossag Road in Ballasalla, is nearing completion and has been delivered efficiently alongside MUA works to replace poles in the area. No additional streetlighting schemes are planned for the year ahead, with replacements carried out only where necessary.

Other improvements completed during the year include enhancement works to the Commissioners’ car park at Rushen Abbey and the installation of new outdoor gym equipment at the Feigh Keign (Abbotswood) play area.

Looking ahead, the Commissioners remain committed to further improving public open spaces across the Parish – additional sites within the Reayrt Mie development are progressing. This is an ongoing program, and while achieving the right balance can be challenging, several areas for enhancement have already been identified and will be progressed during the year ahead.

The Commissioners would like to thank their staff for their continued dedication and extend their appreciation to ratepayers for their ongoing support. Together, they remain focused on ensuring Malew continues to be a welcoming and desirable place to live and work.
